The Plan

I have been back on track for 2 weeks now, which feels awesome, so I decided to create a plan for September. First- I can't believe it's September already... Where did this year go?? Anyhoo- the plan!

Starting Monday I am starting the 21 Day Fix. It's a meal plan with portion control and 30 minute workouts. I am actually doing like the 28 Day Fix because I am doing the last 3 weeks with an awesome group of women, but I don't want to wait :D

On top of that, I am starting C25K again. Maybe. I hate that plan, but I am going to start running again. My plan is to run at least a mile first thing in the morning 5 days a week. The weather is getting back where I like running outside and I just miss my feet on the pavement. I have also started a Sunday Running Club in my area so I will be running with other ladies on Sundays. SO if you are local and want to join, shoot me an email at jess at operationskinnyjeans.com and I will add you to the group!

So that should get me through September and I will reassess after that. I have been reading Chris Powell's book so I am carb cycle curious, but I am still researching.

I have a weight loss goal for this month and I know I will crush it if I stick to the plan!

And if you want to follow along, I will be logging my workouts in Map My Fitness. And I will continue sharing my food in pictures on Instagram.

OH and I am also doing another Diet Bet starting on my birthday, September 10th. We lost almost 450 lbs in my last Diet Bet (that just ended) which is AMAZING! I can't wait to see how we can do for this one!

Favorite books right now

I love to read. Lately I have been devouring personal development books and I have found some awesome ones so I thought I would share!


The Big Picture by Tony Horton. I love Tony. He makes me laugh and I really relate to him as a trainer. This book was great. It is about finding your purpose and living your "Big Picture". It also talks a lot about how your physical fitness and health impact all parts of your life. I loved it. 



It Starts with Food by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig. Holy Crap. I knew that food affected our bodies and minds, but I had no idea it did it the way that this book explains. It was an eye opening experience and has definitely changed the way I look at food and I look at my ED. 

The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. I saw Darren Hardy speak at Summit this year and it was awesome so I got the book. He talks about how small every day changes compound and turn into large success in the end. As a person who always gets freaked out by the big picture, focusing on making each day a success helps me. Its a good read!


Make Success Mandatory by Jeremy Scott. This is a super quick read and it has a great message. It helps put things into perspective and is really motivational. If you are just getting started (on your weight loss journey or anything really) its a great read that will help you create a plan and set better goals for success.


Choose More, Lose More For Life by Chris Powell. I have just started this one, so I can't say its changed my life yet, but its good so far and has some really great inspirational stories as well as good tips for getting started on your weight loss journey.

And I wasn't paid or perked or anything to read these and write about them, I just did it. Free will is awesome :D I know that I don't know everything, about life, weight loss, or anything really, so I like to read about it. I enjoyed all of these books :D

Real Life Fashion- A series!

So after we wrapped up the "No Plan" Meal Plan, Ginny and I realized that working together on something was fun and we totally missed it. SO we decided to do it again. Except in a totally different way. We both love fashion, and we love saving money, and we love trendy stuff. SO over the course of the next forever, we are going to shop different stores for trends and stuff. For cheap. It will be fun.


So this totally cheesy logo kinda gives away our first outfit, but whatever :D When talking about what to do, we wanted to give you something we would wear, and show it to you actually on our bodies. But lets be honest, neither of us have the extra cash to buy an outfit JUST to blog about it. We live in the actual world. So I had a genius idea to go to a store, try it all on and take a picture. Totally cheap- yes. Totally happening- also yes. 

So I went into Target and threw this look together, and so we decided to show how it would look on two different people! Here is what I picked!

Ignore the weird two hands thing... Polyvore fail. Anyhoo- this is what I am wearing! I am wearing a 2X in the top, XL in the leggings, and the boots are an 8.5 if for some reason you care...

After taking a couple dressing room selfies, I walked out and had Andy take a better picture of me.



So yeah! I didn't buy any of it, but when I have some extra money those boots will probably be mine. And maybe that top. I am not normally a scarf person (big boob problems) but I think it works here. 

Who knows where we will go next, but you will have to stay tuned! I love fall and all can't wait for all the warm weather clothes! What do you think of my outfit? Is it totally cheesy to try stuff on JUST to take pictures? I think yes, yes a lot, but fuck it I am cheap :D Like I said if I can't live withouts something I could always go back. Damit those boots are cute.

I'm a loser baby!

So I am beyond excited to report that the scale went down this morning, which made my freaking day. In the last while, there has been a lot of it staying the same or s l o w l y creeping up, which has gone without action for too long. So last week I decided to try. That's all- make a conscious effort to try. I tracked my food in a way that worked for me, I moved some too, and voila- I lost weight this week. 2.6 lbs to be exact.

I am back.

Its not that I didn't think I could do it. It was just that after the refresh, I got lazy. Hell I have BEEN lazy. Lazy about what I eat, lazy about the effort I put into what I am doing and lazy about my intentions. So I decided not to be lazy anymore, and I am excited about it.

So I am creating a plan. I got a new Polar FT60 that has some freaking fancy features, like a personal training program and the ability to track it all online, so I am gonna use it. I am excited to see what all it can do! I have a workouts schedule in mind, so we will see how it goes!

That one time I met the Oatmeal

I have been meaning to write about this for a while, and so why not today.

2 things you should know about me.
1. I am a nerd.
2. I love The Oatmeal.

A few months ago Denver had its annual Comic Con and I, of course, went. There were a lot of famous people that came, which was awesome, but none that I was as excited to see as The Oatmeal aka Matt Inman. I started reading The Oatmeal, his web comic, like 3 years ago, and I fell in love. His wit is just my style and I can't help but laugh at or relate to everything he creates. I have shared quite a bit of his stuff on my FB page because he writes a lot about health and fitness and the struggle.

A year or so ago he came out with a comic about running. The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons I Run Long Distances. It was right when I was starting to get into running (or try to) and I loved his perspective. For once he was someone talking about running that didn't involve rainbows and unicorns! He talked about how it was hard and worth it and about the Blerch and all of that. All the stuff I could relate to. All this time I thought I was doing it wrong. I thought maybe running wasn't for be because it wasn't fun. It hurt and it sucked and I never enjoyed it, which seemed so different than what the rest of the world described. Except him.

The Oatmeal

So when he was announced as a guest at Comic Con, I had to go. I mean I was going to go anyway, its a meeting of my people, but I had to go see him. Here is another fun fact. My sister is a big fan too. And she lives really far away (i.e. in a different country) so I wanted to go and get an book autographed for her to surprise her. (note- I am terrible at surprises so she knows about it so I am not ruining the surprise here)

At Comic Con, I went to see him speak at his panel, which was awesome, then I waited in line to get his autograph. We waited for over an hour and a half, because he spent time to talk to and connect to every person in the line, and I was happy to wait. My husband and best friend, not as much but they love me so they stood there with me :D.

When it was finally my turn, I tried to hold back the urge to word vomit how much I loved his stuff and blah blah blah but I am pretty sure I failed. But what I do remember is telling him about my sister, who loves broken kitties, like he does, and about how I was working on running and hoping to run a half marathon in the future. He was so nice and we talked about his cat and how the half marathon is his favorite running distance, and how its an awesome goal and how hard it would be to run here in Colorado compared to other places because of altitude and it was just a great 3 minute conversation. In the two books I got autographed, he drew a picture of a cat for my sister and a Blerch for me.




So yea.

It was a really awesome time and it was great to have a one on one convo with someone I super admire. And if you haven't heard of The Oatmeal, you should fix that in a hurry. Here are a few of my favorites to entertain you :D

Take me out to the Ballgame!

I love summer. I love the sun, the pool, eating BBQ and Baseball. I have been to a couple Rockies games this season, so I thought it would be fun to put together a cute outfit to wear to a game!

As you know I love Old Navy, so the main pieces are from there. The accessories are a little wishful thinking lol, but IF I had a Michael Kors purse, I would totally wear it with this outfit. Also- I can't be the only one who lusts over Kendra Scott earrings!

Rockies Style



I love mixing the grays with gold accents. I think it totally works here. AND Now I want to go to Old Navy and pick up those gray jeans and I want to order that hat! I love the pop of color! 
Fanatics has some really awesome hats for all different teams. I love wearing baseball caps and this one is totally my style. They have tons to choose from too. I really think the baseball cap makes this outfit!
The good thing is the Rockies have pretty colors to work with. I am a HUGE Broncos fan, but Orange is definitely not my color. :/

A round of applause

It is a well known fact that advertisements are photoshopped. I don't think anyone over the age of 13 is oblivious to this, so it is something we have all come to accept. But in this wave of body positivity culture, some companies are finally taking a pledge to be more realistic in their advertising.

I am a huge fan of Mod Cloth. I used to lust over their clothes before they offered a plus size section, and now that they do, I want to bathe in their stuff. It is trendy, fashionable and actually built for plus size women. And especially plus size YOUNG women. This has been my biggest complaint of plus departments in 90% of stores, specifically Kohls. I don't shop at Kohls because they apparently assume that if you are over a size 14 you are also 65. Anyhoo- not my point.

I was watching Good Morning America this morning (something I never do, but since I am sick it was something to watch in bed) and they mentioned that Mod Cloth had taken a pledge to not photoshop their images, at least to a point where it changes the model's size, shape or skin color. To this I say bravo! I am so happy that a company I admire is taking a stand against ridiculous photoshopping (looking at you Target) and embracing that every woman looks different, and that their customers WANT to see that! Gotta say I LOVE it.

And, according to this Time article, Aerie (the underwear part of American Eagle) is also taking a pledge against photoshopping and using more imperfect women in their photos. Woop! I don't even care that they aren't plus sized, any step in the right direction is fine by me.

How do you feel about photoshopping in fashion? Plus size or otherwise.  As a woman with a less than perfect body, I love to see photos of women looking awesome with less than perfect bodies. For example I went over the Aerie website and on the front page saw a beautiful girl who was toned with stretch marks! THANK YOU! :D
