Woop Woop! Fashion Fridays!

So my goal is to make these a regular-ish thing! Not sure if they will be weekly, but whenever I have new photos, I will share them! Again HUGE props to my amazing photographer buddy Katherine at CurvyMaven! Go check her out :D

So this week is the end of an era, the era being this shirt. I got it 2 years ago when I had just gotten a new fancy professional job and needed fancy professional clothes. It is a Lane Bryant 24 and is a satin-ish material that has ZERO stretch. It was TIGHT. But it looked ok. I wore it to job interviews and fancy events and any time I needed to dress "nice". It was my go to.

This shirt has been a security blanket for me and admitting that it just doesn't fit anymore has been hard. Here are some old pics with it.

So the time has come to say farewell. So I stuck a belt around it and took a farewell photoshoot, naturally. ;)

So goodbye shirt. You are going to live with Katherine now who is much taller and fills you in much better. You were pretty. I am going to miss you.

"No Plan" Meal Plan- Week 13!

It's lucky # 13!

I am so excited we have gotten this far and I can't wait to celebrate #15 with a bang! Anyhoo, this week after all those bbq's over the long weekend, we wanted to embrace the "mix and match" potluck bbq style :D Plus its summer and nothing says summer more than these favorites! I am LOVING the extra meal- Watermelon Salad. Its amazing.

Without further ado!
DOWNLOAD THE “NO PLAN” MENU PLAN WEEK 13

Here's the way it works.

1. No more than 20 ingredients ever. I like simple things, and if a recipe has more than 7 ingredients, I am not gonna make it. I think you are all like me, and like simple, budget friendly dinners, so here they are.

2. 5 dinner recipes, ready to go. Does your family have Pizza Fridays? Or do you always go out to eat on Wednesdays? Cool! 5 dinners allows for flexability, and since they aren't assigned to days, you can always eat what you WANT, not what you wrote down 2 weeks ago :D

3. 4 cook time options. Have to go to basketball practice at 6? No problem! There are dinner options for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour and all day with the crock pot.

4. 3 healthy food groups.  Nutrition is important, and so is eating a balanced meal. All of our dinner recipes will include a Protein, a Vegetable and a Grain. Simple nutrition for you and your family.

5. 2 servings. I am a family of 2, so I don't need more than 2 servings. You have a family of 4? Cool bro- double it. Serving 8? Do the math :D Having the recipes serve 2 allows for easy modification for whatever you need :D

6. Just one easy prep time. The days of slaving away in the kitchen for hours a night are OVER! Once a week you will spend about an hour, maybe less prepping for the week. The prep guide is ON the menu plan, so it literally is EASY PEASY.

Just a few more notes:
  • Don't like chicken? Me either. There are substitutions listed for most recipes. :D
  • Don't like ____? Me either (kidding, I like ___) The optional ingredients are listed. Adjust accordingly :D
  • Each meal plan will be posted on Thursday, give you Friday and the weekend for shopping and prep.
  • Each week you only have to print out ONE THING! It's all there on the one sheet of paper. You are welcome :D

Think your recipe for ____ is awesome and want it to be featured? Submit it here

Perfection is a lie

Am I the only one who feels like it's Tuesdays? Short weeks ALWAYS throw me off.

Anyhoo, took some more cute pictures so those will be up on Friday. I am so excited to have Katherine to help me bring more fashion to my life :D

I was reading through one of my favorite blogs today, Skinny Meg, and I just found myself saying "YES" over and over again. I have loved Skinny Meg since I found her blog almost 2 years ago. She just GETS it I think. In her blog she said "Blogging about health and fitness has two sides; on one hand I love the accountability and the camaraderie, but on the other there can be pressure. Pressure to have all the muscles, pressure to lose all the weight, and pressure to eat the right foods." This is SO true. There is a ton of pressure to say and do and BE all the perfect things. And I know that has gotten to some people's heads.

I completely agree with her next line "I'd rather mine be about my message, be the best you. "

YES! I 100% agree. I am not a perfect person. I don't eat perfect, and I don't always workout. I am not a fitness robot. Last weekend instead of sweating to Shaun T in the 90 degree weather, I went to the pool. I was still moving my body, and I had a great time. And I felt 100% comfortable and beautiful and happy in my body. In a swimsuit. In a BIKINI even!

Yes I borrowed a friend's bikini and I felt amazing in it. Not self conscious, not fat, not ugly. I felt amazing and confident and beautiful. And ya know what? I didn't hear one person say "OMG who is that fat ass white beached whale in the bikini???" Nope. Not even one. And I wasn't thinking it. I was thinking about the sun on my skin and water on my feet and how I am happy its summer.

I have spent too much time hating my body. And I will never ever preach perfection, because I don't believe in it. Do your best. Be your best. Set goals for yourself and be happy with wherever you land. Leading a healthy lifestyle isn't about muscles or miles ran or weight lifted. It is about waking up every day, trying your best and feeling good.

That's all.

Spaghetti Tuesdays on Wednesdays

Any other Walking Dead fans out there? No? you are all dead to me.

Anyhoo!

So way back in high school, I knew this girl named Katherine. We weren't really friends (but we weren't NOT friends) and that was kinda that. (cool story right? keep reading)

About 6 months or so ago I was on pinterest and saw a pin from Gwynnie Bee and the model looked SO FAMILIAR! Like it was bugging the CRAP out of me and Andy thought I was legit crazy because I swore up and down that I KNEW her.

Well I put my internet sleuthing skills to the test (sounds so much better than internet stalking amirite?) and discovered her blog, CurvyMaven. And in that discovery, I realized I WASNT CRAZY and that I totally did know her, she is Katherine, from high school.

So now that you are so not convinced of my sanity or non-stalker status... there's more.

Being the creeper that I am, instead of reaching out, I sat behind my computer and stalked her blog like a hawk. She writes about curvy fashion and I fell in LOVE.

Fun fact- when I created Operation Skinny Jeans, it was supposed to be equal parts weight loss and fashion blog. If you dig way down deep you can find some fashion posts, but mostly just wish list posts or Polyvore'd outfit posts because I am 1. broke and don't own that many cute clothes and 2. really really broke. 3. My husband has about thismuch patience with taking my picture. I have perfected the photo timer selfie lol.

So that has fallen to the wayside which makes me sad. Because besides the fact that I literally wear the same thing every day (jeans and a vneck) I do love fashion.

OMG Long story short (too late) Katherine reached out to me now that she moved back to Colorado to do some photo shoots for our blogs! Weekly she will take my picture and I will take hers and we will go on wild adventures in fashion. Naturally I was down.

So expect way more fashion posts around here, probably every friday for "Fashion Fridays". But because I suck at being patient, here are the pics from last week's shoot (that I mentioned on Instagram during tornado sirens lol)

Jacket (similar, mine was from Lane Bryant) / Top / Jeans / Flats (similar)

Dress (I got it from Solola Boutique, but it isn't sold anymore so I am working on it GUYS! :D / Bag (same bag different color)
So yeah! It was an awesome time, even tho we almost died in a tornado. Kidding, it wasn't that dire, but we were stuck inside a little Wetzles Pretzles waiting out the hail.

Check out her blog for SURE and go see the cute photos I took of her! I need to get the hang of focusing on the right subject lol but having never taken professional photos before, I will take it!

90 Day Bikini Challenge- 30 days to go!

Oh hey guess what! I announced the winner of my Apera Bag giveaway! Go see if it's you!

Well, 28 because I am a few days late, but whatever.

Crap! We are totally in the home stretch of this thing. I am not doing great, to be honest. There have been wagons, dragging my ass and running over me a little bit. BUT I am kicking it into gear these last 30 days! I leave for Vegas in 26 days EEEK.

So I am doing T25 and when I feel up to it, 21 Day Fix hybrid. I don't want to wear myself out, but I think 55 minutes of working out is probably fine. I have done more than that before. I am also cleaning up my diet. Now that I can eat pretty much anything (some things are still hard, but mostly I am good now). So cleaning that shit up it is.

I have let things go lax in the last two months and while I am disappointed, I am ready to move on. I can't change it and I have the power to move forward.

Also I bought a bikini.

I haven't tried it on. BUT if I totally hate it I can take it back. I do love that it has an extended top, and that the bottoms don't look like a diaper. I think the cut outs are cute. It is sexy and I think I will feel sexy in it.

And I promise to take a picture, even if I return it. It's this one from Swimsuitsforall.com in case you are curious. I don't think I will return it. There is a lot of summer to go and I bet I can feel amazeballs in it by the end of it. I think rocking a bikini is 100% about confidence. If I feel great in it, who the fuck cares if I have back fat. I sure don't!

So that's where I am at! How are you doing with the challenge? Link up your progress!

Apera Yoga Tote- A love story

I just want to start this off by saying this is a review of the Apera Yoga Tote. I did get it for free, but I was going to buy it either way. So while I was compensated, my thoughts, opinions, mushy feelings and lust toward an inanimate object are 100% my own. And real. And a little embarrassing.

Now that that is out of the way.

After Ash reviewed an Apera bag on her blog a few weeks back, I fell in long distance love. I am an organizational freak, and my gym bag was leaving a LOT to be desired. It was huge, but it only had one big ass pocket, and lets be honest, digging around for your undies that seem to be lost in the abyss of your gym bag while NAKED in front of strangers who are way fitter than you are is NOT my idea of a great time.

I alleviate this by working out at home most of the time, but there are times where I venture out.

So anyhoo, after Ash's review I was looking at their bags and I fell in love with the yoga tote. Most of the time when I leave the house to workout it is to go to yoga. And for some reason, the yoga strap I bought to carry my yoga mat is too big. So I have to carry it by hand and it gets unrolled and blah blah drama.

When I saw the yoga tote, I said "Wha??? A bag that will actually HOLD my yoga mat?? Take my money!" and I was about to buy it. Then I remembered that Ash asked if she could do the review so I thought I would to. And when they said yes, I was ECSTATIC because I wouldn't have to have weird gym bag fantasies anymore- I could be weird with it in person.

The day it arrived on my door step (well apartment office, but whatever) was like Christmas! I couldn't wait to cuddle with it fill it up and take it to yoga! It just so happened the 9 News Yoga Open fair was that weekend so I had the perfect opportunity to test it out!

I loved how the bag didn't feel bulky. Even packed (I put stuff in it even tho I didn't need to change, I wanted to feel it full) it felt slim and light. And I LOVED the way it carried my mat!

Excuse the look of pain on my face. This was 2 days post wisdom teeth removal and I thought it would be a good idea to go to yoga. I was exhausted. And in pain. #thatbagtho

But the awesomeness doesn't stop at it's ability to carry your yoga mat! Nope! It has all the pockets. And I had too much fun photographing them this morning so you can deal :D I even whipped out my DSLR and we had ourselves a regular photoshoot ;)

Two pockets on the front (and two one the back). A big one and a little one.

I love how the zipper goes all the way down, for easy access (twss?) And you can see where the yoga mat goes in this pic.

Hugamongous cup holder that fits an entire 24 oz Shakeology shaker cup (with room to spare)

A little pocket for keys or my phone (or my Shakeology)

On the inside, there is a divider for your shoes to be separate!

See!

And there is a bag for wet clothes!

And 2 pockets on this side (the bottom one is padded for jewelry!

And another one on this side too.

Its breathable mesh, fancy fabric that doesn't get nasty and bacteria-y, etc. It is awesome.

If this were a review for my other gym bag, it would not be this glowing. I am in actual romantic unhealthy love with this gym bag. It is cute, stylish, big enough to hold a lot of shit, and it's pink. And has 7,000 pockets for those of us that need that sorta thing :D

My face says "ow, my wisdom teeth" but my heart says "this bag is amazing!"

So now is your turn! Apera (who are based out of Colorado, which makes me smile!) is nice enough to give away a bag for YOU!

They have two ways to win! 1. Enter my giveaway for the Apera Sprint pack + 25% off coupon!

And 2. Enter to win one of their bags here!

Do both! Cause why not :D I will pick my winner on Friday, 5/23!

Also if you want to be an awesome person, here are the links to Apera's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Website :D Show them some love :D

Making Lemonade

I think a true test of strength is how you deal with setbacks. Do you admit failure and quit? Or do you see it as an opportunity and run with it?

I used to be a quitter. When the going got tough, I quit going. This incredibly difficult journey has taught me that quitting isn't an option.

I was faced with a situation that could have gone either way. I could have quit. But I have chosen to make the most of this opportunity.

Today is a new day. I haven't been shy about the struggle I have had this month. I ate too many milkshakes and hadn't worked out at all.  The weird thing about working out is once you stop, it is SO HARD to start again. Your head is filled with self doubt and fear, and once you just DO the damn thing, it is never as hard as what you built up in your head.

Today was day 1. I finally started T25 and I am excited! It was fun and kicked my ass, but didn't leave me exhausted! I feel energized and ready to tackle the day.

So take a hard look at your life today. Are you letting a setback become a failure? Or is it an opportunity for something EVEN better?
