Weigh in and Workout Wednesday 7/31

First off, I can't believe July is over. Where has this year gone?? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like it is just flying by! I am so excited to start the Live Well Colorado Get Moving Challenge tomorrow! I would love it if you would join me, even if you don't live in Colorado :D For the next 30 days, we are moving 30 minutes every day. That's it! I think it's a great way to jumpstart activity, or to keep yourself accountable to move a little more every day! I can't wait!

And this week for Weigh in Wednesday, I weighed in at 244.7. That is down almost 3 lbs from last week :D I am excited to finally break that 247 barrier I have been up against for a while. I can't believe I am less than 5 lbs away from the 230's! Here I come!!

Old Habits Die Hard

Stress. It comes in all forms and faces, and can show up when you least expect it. It can derail you are make you stronger, but it is all up to you. Some stress is bigger than other stress, but it can all be a trigger.

I used to be an emotional eater. When I was excited or sad or stressed, I would turn to food. Food filled the void. In the past year, I have worked a lot on my relationship with food. Rather than something that fills my heart, it fills my stomach. Food is there to fuel your body, not make you feel better.

But when stress happens, I still struggle. I still fight with that part of myself that wants to feel better. I still want to feel the comfort that food used to give me. But I don't. I don't give in because food doesn't make me feel better anymore. And if I were to start, I wouldn't be able to stop because no matter how much I ate, it wouldn't fill the space in my heart.

And on the other side of this struggle, I feel in control in a way I never did before. I can manage stress in different ways, healthy ways, that won't make me feel worse in the end.

So for those of you still working through this, I feel your pain. I know how comforting it is to sit down with a pint of ice cream. I also know how amazingly powerful it feels to be in control and to not have to  give in to those triggers. If you are working through this right now, just know that I am here for you. We all need someone to talk with.

My girl Ash Z. If you haven't seen her around the internet, you have been on the wrong side of the internet. She is funny and a great mom and HOT AS HELL after losing 40lbs and having a baby. She is adorable, her son is adorable. And I love this pic :D


Morgan looks HAWT. No denying that. She has lost over 80 lbs! She is so inspiring and has an awesome blog.

Tracking.

I know that tracking what you eat is an effective way to lose weight. Managing your food is all about awareness, and the best way to become aware is to write it down. I have tracked my food on Weight Watchers, through My Fitness Pal, on paper, and none of these attempts have worked for me. I am not saying they don't work for other people, just not for me.

When I track, I get really hard core about my calories, and I feel too restricted. I eat anywhere between 1500-1700 calories a day (I know because I still pay attention, I just don't write it down). I eat well, fruits and veggies, lean proteins and brown carbs, but I don't write it down. When I have to write things down, or track in an app, I feel like a diet prisoner. I don't feel like I am living my life.

I completely understand how it is a hugely useful tool for when you are first starting out, but I have been doing this for a long time, successfully for almost a year, and I know how to fuel my body.

Do you still track? What do you think? Am I the only one who feels imprisoned by tracking?

Skinny Jean Fit Camp

As I mentioned about a week ago, my trainer Sedric and I will be teaming up to make videos for the Fit Campers to follow. These will be workout videos you can do at home, with no equipment. We were talking and we want to share these videos with all of you!

Check out our budding new Youtube channel- Skinny Jean Fit Camp. We will be posting videos at least once a week, sometimes more, and you are invited to follow along! And since you missed it, here is our workout this week. They are called 300's.


To do 300's (incase I am unclear, or you are at work and can't watch the video) you follow this.

1 each jumping jack, squat, push-up
2 each jumping jack, squat, push-up
3 each jumping jack, squat, push-up
4 each jumping jack, squat, push-up
(all the way to 10)
9 each jumping jack, squat, push-up
8 each jumping jack, squat, push-up
(etc, all the way back to 1)

This is a pretty quick work out, but it gets your heart pumping and your arms working! For more difficulty, you can do regular (or modified) pushups, squat jumps and burpees.

A fun challenge twist to this is to time yourself, and try to beat your time each time you do it.

Weekly Goal Link Party 7/22

Happy Monday! I am super excited because today is the start of Skinny Jean Fit Camp! Woot :D I can't wait to see how the next 10 weeks go!

I am also excited because I am actually making goals this week! Woot! It has been a few weeks and I am ready to get back on goal-making track :D



For Skinny Jean Fit Camp, the goal is to lose 10% in 10 weeks. For me, that would be 24.6 lbs. If you break that into 10 weeks, that's 1% a week, or 2.4 lbs a week. I know it will shift up and down, but I want to stick right around that. This goal probably won't change, sorry to be boring :P


Morning work outs are the hardest and best thing ever. Getting out of bed is one of the hardest things ever. My goal is to do it 5 times this week. This morning was a bust, so here comes a weekend work out in the morning lol.


Thanks to our awesome Nutritionist, Melissa  I am back on the food tracking track. I am not particularly excited, but I think going back to basics will be good for me.

My hair, not my ass, is on fire.

Ok so as you have probably gathered from the ridiculously irregular nature of my posts the last two weeks, my life is effing crazy right now. EVERYTHING is happening right now and I wake up with so many good intentions, and as I lie in bed I think about all the ways I have failed. And the part that sucks is that ALL of the things are excellent things! They are awesome things that I have worked hard for and I am so happy are finally happening, just the ALL.AT.ONCE thing is really overwhelming.

SO I need your help. How do you fit this all in? Getting in a good sweat sesh when things are so crazy is the last thing I think about, and I want to change that. So, to all the women even busier than me, SHARE YOUR SECRETS! :D

I promise things will become more regular here soon. I am working on a new routine for my day that will bring some peace back. And now that the big stuff is done (vacation and moving and starting a new job and most of the planning for the fit camp, and training for my new side gig(on top of the new job) ), I can focus on whats to come (running the fit camp, blogging more consistently, unpacking said apartment, settling into my new job(s), etc).

Any suggestions? I need all I can get! Share your wisdom with me.

Get Movin' Challenge

You are probably thinking "UGH another challenge" but hear me out.

I live in Colorado. My state is pretty awesome. Not only do we have mountains and farm land and big cities, we have so many awesome programs to be healthy. As a state, it is our goal to be the fittest state of all. I fully support this mission.

Thats why I am proud to say that I am doing the LiveWell Colorado Get Movin' Challenge! Basically the challenge is, starting August 1st, you just get moving, for 30 minutes every day. Yep, all 30 of them in August. I am so excited to have this goal to work toward!


And another cool thing is I am actually an ambassador for this challenge, so I will be blogging and instagraming about it throughout the month!

"But Jess! I don't LIVE in Colorado!" you are probably saying. To that I say "That's a bummer, because Colorado is awesome" but really, that doesn't matter! So you can't log your time into the system to win cool prizes, BUT you can still do the challenge! So I challenge you, my faithful readers, to get your asses off your couches and GET MOVING in August! Operation Skinny Jeans Fit Camp

I can't even tell you in words how excited I am for this new "challenge". It is going to be even more awesome, and completely different, so I decided among the other changes that I would change the name! Since this is less of a challenge and more of a camp, it seemed fitting. Here is what's new!

I have two other awesome people on board as camp counselors. Meet our nutritionist Melissa and our trainer Sedric !

Melissa is a personal trainer and certified Nutritionist (as well as a former fat girl) that blogs at Melissa Austin Fitness

Sedric is a personal trainer, professional physique model and a good friend of mine. He has agreed to whip my fat ass into shape, and he is going to whip yours too. 

I realized something during the 10 week challenge; I am not a nutritionist or a trainer. I can't tell you what to eat or how to move your body to lose weight. Besides being motivating or whatever, I have NO expertise at all, and for that I felt I was failing as a leader. So I reached out and got some help. I think these resources will take the fit camp to the next level. 

As well as being there as a resource, Melissa will help you figure out what you should be eating and Sedric and I will be filming weekly work out videos for you to do, as well as putting together a training schedule for you. MORE STRUCTURE! 

Another change will be more camper involvement. We will have weekly weigh ins, as well as submitting beginning, middle and after pictures and measurements. This isn't just a support group, it is an actual FIT CAMP. You will have that accountability to Melissa, Sedric and myself. We will look at your progress and see if you need more support in any areas if you aren't getting the results you want. 

There will also be a set goal! In 10 weeks, the goal is to lose 10% of your starting weight. This is TOTALLY reasonable and considered a healthy rate of weight loss in order to maintain and not gain it all back. If you follow our program, you should have no problem reaching that goal. 

The primary platform for the group will be a secret Facebook group. 

So what do you say? Wanna join us? Please only join if you are serious. This is an actual commitment and you will be held to it. We want you to succeed, not get lost in a large group, so the size will be kept under 50 participants. 

The program will start Monday July 22nd, and end on September 30th. And if you are in the Colorado area, there is a really awesome event on July 20th that I want to tell you about! 


 This is a free event on July 20th at Red Rocks in Morrison. There will be free classes like Zumba, Body Combat, Yoga and more! Sedric and I will be there so if you want to come and meet up with is, email me! Click on the envelope button under my picture on the right. We would love to meet you to kick off this challenge! If you want to come, you do need to register, so go to their website to do that. I hope to meet some of you and work out with you!

So there you go! I am so excited about this new fit camp. I have been working on it for over a month to make it perfect and to give you all the best! Let me know if you would be interested in joining. I am working on a registration form to get all the beginning info before it starts so I don't have to do that after. Registration will be open from Friday July 12th- Friday July 19th.

10 Week Challenge Wrap Up

Wow I can't believe that 11 weeks ago I had a crazy idea to put together a challenge to get committed in 10 weeks. This whole thing completely blew my expectations out of the water. Not only did over 200 people join the group, but so many people connected, and made friends, and got motivated to move their bodies! I am so proud of everyone who participated and I am so pleased with how it went. Here is how it all went  :D


So at the beginning of the challenge I thew out there to hashtag #osj10weekchallenge in any pics you took for the challenge so that I can see them all, and I COMPLETELY spaced it until the #GoalOneGoRun challenge. I was SO EXCITED to see so many pics hashtaged! It was amazing. Here is a screen shot, but click on it to see all of them!

Seriously they are so inspirational. The group was a huge place to go for support, questions, ideas, inspiration, etc and was definitely somewhere I visited at least twice a day for a pick me up. Truth is, losing weight is tough, and it helps to have people on your side that are going through the same stuff. I love the little community we have all become. 

As for if I met my goals, the answer is no. But that's all me. I am working on getting a good schedule set and back on the right track. But some really awesome ladies DID meet their goals! Check out these rock stars!
