Vacation time baby!!

I am so ready for this vacation I can't hardly stand it. I want the sun on my SPF protected skin, wind in my hair, sand beneath my toes and a cold drink in my hand. Heck, I am even looking forward to the 13 hour drive tomorrow. I am just ready to GO.

But before I do, I have made a few plans.

1. Guest Bloggers. I love you all, but I KNOW my family would shoot me if I spent this entire vacation blogging. So I thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce you to 5 of my favorite ladies in the blogosphere. This next week you will be entertained and enlightened by some pretty awesome ladies. Throw them a bone, go follow them on Bloglovin or Feedly or whatever you are using to replace Google Reader in your life :D

2. My workout plan! Working out on vacation can be tough, but I am ready for it! I am planning on doing Rip Deck every morning, since it only takes 20 min. And a few months ago I found Cassey's blog Blogilates and I am excited to say I am finally going to try her workout out! I am going to do the beginning work out plan, which is a month long, starting Monday. You should join me! Here is the calendar and links to all the videos. Each work out is about 30 min long. I also wanna do these in the morning, but I find Pilates calming enough to do at night, so that might work too. And lastly I have my Zombies 5K running app if I feel like getting out there to run. The forecast is in the high 110's so we will see if I want to try this out lol. We will see. I might have to run at sea level to see how that is different tho for sure. Here in the CO we are a mile above, so there is less oxygen in the air. Dang now I am really curious….

3. My eating plan! I am actually not so worried about this. The family I am visiting KNOWS I am living the healthy lifestyle, so I think I would get way more flack for eating crappy than eating healthy. They will keep me in check.

My goal is to lose on vacation, and really have a great time! I am going to take lots of pictures, especially of my legs in shorts :D Not just my legs of course, that would be weird. But I will be wearing shorts so you will definitely see them :D

Two things.

1. Why are women's sizes not consistent? This is something that boggles my husband, but it's something I have just come to accept. Until now. As you know I ordered two pairs of shorts from Old Navy in the SAME exact size. I got them the other day and one pair fits great, and one pair is too small.  So I decided to stack them on top of each other to see the difference. Holy cow.



The adorable star patterned jeans are a solid two inches smaller than the other ones. Huge bummer. Except that Old Navy has an awesome online exchange policy and my size up are en route to my vacation destination as we speak. They will be there waiting for me when I get there.

But this brings me to my bigger point, these two shorts had the EXACT same "measurements" online in the sizing chart. Why are they so drastically different in size? Why are women's sizes subjective to vanity sizing and brand differences. And not even BRAND differences here, just piece differences. That I don't get. Does anyone actually know? Besides making it freaking hard to shop, is there a point to this madness? How can I be an 18 in Old Navy jeans, and a 22 plus now in these star shorts (and the other shorts are a 20 plus)? I don't get it.

Men are lucky. Our sizes should be based on our waist and inseam measurements.

2. Do you follow me via google reader? That's a huge bummer because on Monday, google reader will go away. Yes, the time has finally come where they are taking away the way I imagine most people follow blogs. I switched over to bloglovin a few months ago and I really like it. I like the layout and I like how user friendly it is. Their website is simple and they even have an app. Gotta love that! I highly recommend you make the switch.

Only 2 more days till vacation time! Woot!

Weigh in/ Workout Wednesday 6-26

Oh man, only 3 more days till I leave for vacation! I am super excited for all the ladies blogging for you next week! I think something everyone worries about going on vacation is gaining back weight, staying in control, etc. The good news is, everyone we are traveling with KNOWS I am living a healthy lifestyle, so they will definitely keep me in check. I think that accountability is huge all the time, but especially in the face of vacation temptation.

My weight for this week is 246.0. I think I mentioned it last week, I am weighing on Friday, and posting it on Wednesday, so technically thats what I weighed last Friday lol.

Today for Workout Wednesday, I wanted to share my ideas for staying fit on vacation. I wont have access to a gym, so I am going to have to get creative. I have two things that will keep me going. Well two apps really.

1. Rip deck, which I have written about a lot. I have a lot of favorite things about this workout, but one of my most favorite things is that I can do it and take it ANYWHERE. I can do it in a hotel room, I can do it in my Aunt's living room, I don't have to have anything to do it besides my phone and my body. I love that.



2. Zombies 5K running app. I was a little bored with C25K training (not that it wasn't hard, just that it lacked, well,  Zombies. ) so I bought this app and so far I LOVE it. It keeps me entertained the whole time so I don't even think about the running. The story is engaging and the workouts are great.


It gets hot in Tucson and Oceanside so I plan on running early in the morning :D

Get out that measuring tape...

Unless you are new, you know I have been stuck in a plateau. Since February, I have lost 10 lbs. That's not much my friends. But I realized the other day that I haven't taken my measurements in a while, so I thought I would do that. I dug up my starting measurements to compare :D

Starting 9/2012

Arms: 16in
Hips: 59.5in
Bust: 51in
Waist: 47in
Thigh: 30in
Dress size: 24

Now 6/2013

Arms: 13.5in
Hips: 53in
Bust: 46in
Waist: 41in
Thigh: 25.5in

Total lost:

Arm: -2.5in
Hips: -6.5in
Bust: -5in
Waist: -6in
Thigh: -4.5in.

So while I haven't seen a great improvement on the scale, I have lost 24.5 inches. That is two feet. Two whole feet gone from my body. THAT is insane. The scale doesn't tell the whole story. Take your measurements.

The reason I even took out the measuring tape is because I ordered some shorts online from Old Navy and I wanted to make sure they were gonna fit. They should be here today so I can't wait to wear them and take pictures :D

Weekly Goals Link Party 6-24


Holy weekend from hell my friends. Wow. Well I learned a couple things this weekend about myself and my body. Coming out of a cleanse into a weekend filled with a birthday party and a friend's night is not the best choice. Everything I "couldn't" eat during the advocare 10 day cleanse, I ate this weekend… As of this morning, I have gained back two of the lbs I lost, BUT my husband gained back 9 of the 25 he has lost recently, so at least I didn't do that bad. We both woke up this morning and decided that we felt like CRAP so we were ready to get back on the right track. 

Also, holy crap we leave for vacation on Saturday! I am pretty excited for the week full of guest posts awaiting you next week. Question: Do you want one of those posts to be this link up? I can make that happen. I wouldn't want you to miss a week of goals. Let me know in the comments. 

Onto last week's goals. 

1. Go Run Outside- I did this! Only twice, but I did it! I need to get out there more often. I loved running on the trail behind my apartment. The scenery was a welcome change to the gym. Some of my 10 week challengers posted their photos too, so I will be sharing those this week :D

2. Take my dog Max for a long walk every day- At the end of the day when my husband gets home, we have made a new routine to go on a mile- 2 mile walk with Max before dinner. It's a nice time together and we get to wind down from our days. I like it :D I hope it sticks. 

3. Try a new recipe- I did this one! I made Artichokes in the Crock Pot from this recipe from Family Fresh Meals. We love artichokes, but we normally just boil them, so I was excited to try something new! This turned out really well! They were well seasoned, and cooked more so you get more off the leaf. If you haven't made artichokes, or have never eaten them because you are scared, try this recipe. It is practically fool proof. Some people dip their artichokes in butter, or mayo or holindaise. I just like a little fresh squeezed lemon juice :D YUMMY!

Onto this week!


It's hard to believe, but this is the last week of the 10 week challenge! I am no where near where I wanted to be, but I am happy I had such an awesome support group with me along for the ride. This week's goal is to finish strong. You know what to do, do it!


I really want to get out on the trail this week and pound the pavement. And since we will be driving 13 hours on Saturday, I will probably want to get out and run once we get there. It is definitely going to be a struggle for me to stay on track on vacation, but I know I can do it, and I can't wait to share how I did :D


One thing I really noticed this weekend is that certain food makes me feel like crap. And not necessarily all crap food. I am lactose intolerant (but I ignore it because I love cheese…) and I don't understand why I do that. I don't feel good at all when I eat it, but it tastes good so I keep doing it? Same thing with red meat. I like the way it tastes, but my body doesn't feel good after I eat it. So I goal this week is to just eat what feels good. I want my body to feel good, even if that means I wont get to eat cheese lol. Have you noticed certain foods just hate your stomach?

10 Day Advocare Cleanse Results

I am just gonna say this right off the bat, I was not paid or perked by Advocare to do this cleanse and write about it. A few ladies I respect around blog land had done it, and it is SO.MUCH.CHEAPER than other cleanses around, so I threw it out there to my 10 Week Challenge Ladies, and thats how this started. *side note, Ash from Fit and Sassy Ash is a rockstar, and she bought my cleanse and Spark for me. So you really should go check her out, because she is the bomb.com.

Moving on! The cleanse. For the first and last 3 days, you drink this thing called the Fiber drink. It comes in two different flavors, Citrus and Peaches and Cream, and I got Citrus. The first day I made it, I drank it in smaller gulps, taking my time. This was the worst choice ever. About 5 minutes after I mixed it, it got really thick, like applesauce and jello mixed together… I went to take the last gulp and it slowly slopped into my mouth, and I almost puked. So I learned day one, drink it fast. I tried making it with Orange juice to trick myself into thinking the chunks were "pulp" but I was still unconvinced. The part that sucks is that it actually tastes good, the texture is just funky. To demonstrate, I made a video. If you get motion sick, close your eyes when I say "Now I am going to mix it".


After you get that down tho, it gets a lot easier. You just eat clean. You take a pill at night, and toward the end you take a pill in the morning, but that's about it. (The schedule of when to take what comes in the box). I loved that you could eat, it made it a ton easier. And really the fiber drink was the hardest part for me.

Now to be honest with you, I didn't eat according to the plan 100% of the time. I did probably 75% of the time, but I did have some carbs. And because I suck I didn't take my measurements before either, sorry! BUT when I started, I weighed 249.7, and this morning I weighed 246.0 which is definitely the lowest I have seen in a VERY long time. I had been stuck in 247 land and so seeing a number smaller than that made my day. Could i have lost more if I had eaten better, probably. Would I do the cleanse again, sure. It wasn't unpleasant, and it really "cleansed" my insides, so that felt nice. I didn't have headaches or lightheadedness like my last cleanse, so over all I would call this one a success.

The Day I Tied the Knot

So this morning I woke up a little late (my bed was soooo warm) so I was fishing around the internets for something to write about. Thats when I came across Holly at Where We Can Life Like Jack and Sally's Link up today about weddings. I realized I have never actually blogged about my wedding, which was 2 and a half years ago, and it has a fun story behind it, so here we go :D

I was married to the love of my life (awww!) on November 27, 2010. This was after planning a May 13, 2011 wedding for about 18 months. We had the venue, colors, catering, flowers, CAKE all of it planned out for our big May wedding, but on November 13th, I had a decision to make. NO I wasnt pregnant, but EVERYBODY at our wedding thought I was :D

My Grandparents were coming into town for their 50th wedding anniversary over Thanksgiving and my Grandpa wasn't in stellar health. He wasn't sick, he just didn't really travel well, and it was becoming a reality that he wouldn't be able to come out for my wedding. This broke my heart. I sat down with Andy (my husband) and said "I think we should get married while my Grandparents are here" and he said "Can we get back any of the money we put down?" and I said "If we cancel tomorrow, yes, but tomorrow is the deadline to get any back." and he said "Well then, lets do this!" 

So the next day I called our wedding coordinator at our venue (who we had become pretty close with) and she was sad to see us go, but happy that we were going to have my Grandparents there. We canceled every thing else and had to decide on a date. They were in town for two saturdays, and one was their 50th celebration, so we decided on the other. It was time to get to work. We had two weeks. 

We sent an email out to close friends and family that we were moving up our wedding and that it would be in two weeks, and that no I wasn't pregnant (not that they believed me) and that the bridal shower would be the Sunday before. 

Location: A small clubhouse in Andy's parent's neighborhood that we used for other family events before. We had Qdoba catering, and a cupcake place near by for the cake. We went to Party City to get decorations (black table cloths, yellow plates and napkins) and King Soopers for the flowers (sunflowers). 

Bridal Party: My best friend Alex and Andy's best friend Leo

Colors: Black and Yellow

First Dance: We danced to The Only Exception by Paramore

Honeymoon: Because we saved so much money on our wedding, we were able to go on our honeymoon to Orlando for a week in May. It was awesome. 

What would you change: Not a damn thing. It was a small wedding, like 40 people, and we didn't even have an officiant (you don't need one in Colorado).  We walked down the aisle, Andy said his vows (that he wrote) to me, I said my vows to him, we kissed. Held hands and said "Lets do this thing!" and walked back up the aisle. My sister was there via skype (she lives in Northern Ireland) and it was pretty awesome. There was a little family drama happening, and I would change that so everyone I love could have been there, but that really is the only thing. The big white wedding we had planned was so not us.

Side note: My Grandpa passed away unexpectedly in February 2011. He would not have made it to my May wedding. I thank god every day that I made the choice I did to have him there on my wedding day.

Weigh in / Workout Wednesday 6-19

Alright I am officially back on the horse as far as posting on Wednesday. The reason things were touch and go the last couple weeks is that I play Geeks who Drink trivia on Tuesday nights, and by the time I got home at 10:30, I was so tired (read: boozed up…) that I went straight to bed instead of writing a post for you. Then in the morning, I would weigh myself after drinking and eating bar food the night before and not really feel super awesome about it. I know eating like crap and drinking isnt a great idea anyway, but the night before a weigh in always has been my downfall. So I wouldn't have it in me to bust out a post before work. Long story short, no post on Wednesdays.

BUT things have changed a little. With my new job, I have time to write in the mornings, and I have decided to weigh myself on Fridays, but write about it on Wednesdays so that I can still join the link up.

Side note: I was really glad to know that a lot of my readers (at least the ones that commented) have a healthy body image and don't worship the thigh gap. If you have one, awesome, if you don't awesome. LOVE YOUR BODY!

I didn't weigh myself this morning because I have two more days of the Advocare 10 day cleanse and so I will have my weight on Friday when I do the full run down of the cleanse. So sorry to be a bummer there lol

This week for Workout Wednesday, I wanna talk about running outside. Getting outside to run was this week's 10 Week Challenge Mini Challenge so I thought I would round up some tips and reasons why you should run outside sometimes instead of always on the dreadmill.

Btw, you still have time to take a photo of yourself sweating outside and post it to facebook or twitter or instagram with the hashtag #goalonegorun (which my husband thought said go alone go run, but it really says goal one go run… incase you read it the way he did. )

Running outside is completely different than running on a treadmill. A treadmill pushes you forward so it does almost half the work for you. When you get outside, the ground is no help. It is all you. That's why if you want to run races, training on a treadmill is good practice, but getting on the road is what is going to make you a better runner. When going on your first run outside, pick a route you know. There might be a really cool trail that is scenic near you, but if you don't know it well, you could get lost. And the bad thing about that is a 2 mile run could easily turn into a 4 mile one that you weren't prepared for.

Dress appropriately. There is nothing worse than being too hot or too cold while running. Bring water. Start slow. Don't go out for a 10 mile run on your first shot. A mile or two would probably be perfect. Listen to music. This always gets my feet pumping faster. And lastly, bring a friend. Whether it's your dog or your bestie, running is more fun with a friend :D

So get out there and just try it!

Don't even get me started...

on the thigh gap. One response to my blog on Friday about loving your body threw out the words "Thigh Gap." What the actual hell is the internet's fascination with this magical unicorn of body "perfection"??

I existed for 25 solid years before I discovered that it was a crime against humanity that my thighs touched. I had no idea that having a gap there was a thing of beauty. I don't even understand it. I will probably never have skinny thighs, and  I don't want skinny thighs. I want STRONG thighs. When I look at inspirational pictures, I am drawn to those of women who have thick, muscular thighs, not skinny stick thighs that don't touch. I want my legs to take me miles. I want my legs to squat my body weight. I want my legs to match the strong version of me I have in mind, not be stick thin have a thigh gap.

I guess my real point is WHY are we as women subscribing to this standard of beauty that is not physically possible for all of us to achieve. Thigh gaps are determined more by the width of your hips than the amount of work you put in. If you lose 100 lbs and your thighs still touch, will you be happy with your body? Is it really healthy to idolize a specific trait like a thigh gap and obsess over getting it? I think these are the questions you should be asking yourself.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand this? Do you worship the thigh gap? Explain it to me because I am boggled.

Edit: I am by no means hating on women that do have a thigh gap, I just don't understand why it's something women hate that they don't have, get me? My point is just love your body. Improve it how you see fit, but still love yourself if you do or don't have a thigh gap. :D

Weekly Goals Link Party 6-17

Only two more weeks till I leave for my trip to California! Side note- I am looking to have guest bloggers that whole week, so if you are interested, shoot me an email! I would love to feature you!

On that note:


Maybe it's just me, but I seriously can't believe we are half way through with JUNE! The 10 week challenge is coming to a close, with just two more weeks left, and I can't even believe how fast it has gone! It has made me realize that today is really the only day we have. Because it will be tomorrow far too soon. ANYHOO, onto my goals. 

Last week…

1. Eat Clean. I am half way done with the Advocare Cleanse so I have been trying really hard to eat clean. I am not going to lie that a few times I settled for "homemade" rather than true clean, but I didn't use any processed ingredients so I am going to call it okay :D Eating perfectly clean all.the.time is really a challenge for me. 

2. Make time to work out. I did better with this this week. I just started a new job today where I will be working from home, and I think that will make this a lot easier. I will have an hour and a half every morning after my husband goes to work before I have to start work. My plan is to spend that sweating and blogging. 

3. Stick to the plan. Like I said, I did okay. But when I deviated, I still made good choices, so I am happy with it. 

So over all not a terrible week! 

This week….


This week the mini challenge for the 10 week challenge is to take a run outside. It is beautiful out and breaking away from the treadmill can do you some good. Road running is a lot different than treadmill running, so go out there and run! Take a photo of yourself running and post it to our fb group, my page, twitter or instagram with the hashtag #goalonegorun and I will feature them next week :D


Like I said above, I will be working from home now, so it will be nice to get out and walk my dog Max. My goal is to go out at least once a day. 


I am always looking for new recipes to try, so this week my goal is to actually try one!

Love your legs!

After my post on Tuesday about my June goals, I was really surprised and sad to see how many women don't wear shorts because they don't like their legs. LADIES! Rocking shorts is all about self confidence and not at all about toned legs.

Here is a fact. It is HOT in the summer time! Why are you suffering in jeans!? Because you don't want to "offend" anyone with your legs? Fuck them! Sorry for my language but seriously. There is NOTHING wrong with your thighs! And your big calves are strong and they are YOURS! Own them.

I hate that us bigger women have to feel ashamed of our bodies! Everyone's body is different, and everybody has "trouble areas". The best thing you can do for your health is to fall in love with yourself. Every inch of you. NAKED. It's your body and the only one you have! Love it, show it respect, and it will do amazing things for you. You call those thighs "cottage cheese"??? They took you through that 5K! You hate your calves? They got you through 200 squats last week. They may not be perfect, but they are yours.

My point is, WEAR THE DAMN SHORTS. Why are you making yourself uncomfortable?

A few tips to make you feel awesome in the shorts. Shave your legs :P and lotion/ tan them. You will feel more confident and NOBODY will be staring at your thighs.

Get In My Ears! A Yurbuds review

I have small ears. I have the hardest time getting earphones to stay in my ears. Either they fall out, or they start to hurt so I take them out. Any time I try to run with earbuds, they fall out and I have to stop, put them back in, start running again and eventually stop because my earbuds fell out, put them back in and start again. It is obnoxious. So much so that I ran for a very long time without listening to music. I started to research a solution to my problem and I came across Yurbuds.

I was immediately drawn to the idea that they carry specific models for women. It made me think that maybe I am not a weirdo! Maybe this is a common problem! I also liked how they have a rubbery exterior and that they are designed for use while sweating. I was curious, and a little skeptical of the "twist lock" technology. Earbuds always fall out, that is kinda what they are famous for, so I wanted to give a test.

I contacted Yurbuds to do a review and I was ecstatic when they accepted. They sent me a pair of lime green Inspire for Women. (I was so excited to get them out of the box, I didn't get a complete picture lol)

First I had to figure out how to put them in, which I have to admit was kinda tricky at first. I read the provided instructions, and they confused me… Luckily, they said to check out this video on youtube for a demonstration. After watching the video, I got them in with no problems. And I was really shocked that when I tugged on the cords like in the video, they stayed in. That was not enough to convince me.

First I tried running in them. I made it a full mile and they didn't fall out once. I did yoga in them. Still in place. At that point I was pretty determined to make them fall out. I did 30 Day Shred, Squats, push ups, jumping jacks, everything I could possibly think of to make them come out, and they didn't budge.


I am really impressed.

I even wore them on the train :D



Here is the thing. Even tho I was provided these headphones specifically so I would write this review, I would never tell you I loved something if I didn't. I have been looking for earbuds for a long time and I am so glad I have found them. I had 3 things on my "please have" list. They were:

1. Stay in my ears for the love of god
2. Have good sound quality!
3. Come in cute colors.

These Yurbuds inspire have all 3. The sound quality is really great! It is clear and crisp, and REALLY loud. Like so loud you can listen to them when they are off lol. I hate when you just want to crank it up and all your earbuds feel like doing is playing that song at a healthy whisper. Sound is a must for me.

June Goals!

I kinda flew over how I did with May's goals because one word can discribe how: bad.

So I am moving past the "month of no progress" and I am ready to take charge and kick ass in June!

My goals for June are:

Get out of the 240's
Run a mile again. I haven't run a straight one since my first one...
Finish the 10 Week Challenge strong
Buy a new pair of shorts.

I am in dire need of shorts. I, unlike some overweight girls, dont mind flaunting my thunder thighs in the name of comfort. In the summer, it is effing hot. So I wear shorts. I wore shorts at 285 lbs and god knows I will wear shorts at 245 :D

But all the shorts I own are from last summer, when I was 40 lbs heavier, so they are way too big. We are going on vacation to Arizona then California at the end of the month, so I need to get some new shorts. Hopefully size 18.

Weekly Goals Link Party 6-10

I just have to say I am loving this beautiful weather! Yesterday it was 95 and I laid out by the pool and it was awesome.


I just realized I never went over May's goals! I didn't do so well on any of them. May was kind of a blur and lets just move on past that :D I will start thinking about June goals and update the "Goals" tab asap.

Here is how I did last week:

1. Make a plan! I did this! I can't believe there are only 4 weeks left of the 10 week challenge. My plan for the next 4 weeks are as follows. I am doing the Advocare 10 Day Cleanse with a group of challengers starting tomorrow, that will end at the end of next week. Then I am going to continue eating clean hopefully indefinitely, but certainly until the 10 week challenge is over. I am also going to actually start 30 day shred this week, and doing Rip Deck 5 times this week. I love that it is so fast paced, it is cardio and strength training in one.

2. Do 30DS. I kinda touched on how I failed at this above, so yeah…

3. Eat Quinoa again. I didn't do that either, BUT I cooked some for the 10 day cleanse so I will definitely be eating it this week. 


This week's 10 week challenge "Mini Challenge" is to eat clean. It's time to get back to basics, and eating clean is about as basic as it gets. I am eating super clean for the Advocare cleanse, so this shouldn't be a problem :D


I have not been doing this, and I need to remember that I don't have time to work out, I make time. This week I am going to MAKE the time to work out. 


I have made a pretty concrete meal plan for the next 10 days and I really intend to stick to them. I love that on the Advocare I can eat real food, so I am definitely going to take advantage of that. I am going to try to resist the urge to cheat because it is only 10 days. Wish me luck!

Goals and rewards

If you know me, or have read my blog for more than 30 seconds, you know I am all about setting goals. I set goals every week, I set goals every month, I have year long goals, and I may or may not wake up and set some goals for my day too. #dontjudge. For all this goal setting, one thing I am actually not fantastic about is rewarding my success. I have gotten a few new pairs of pants along the way, but more out of necessity than reward.

One of my awesome challengers Ashley at Fit + Sassy Ash (god could she BE cuter?!!?) bought herself a pair of new shoes and can't wear them until she hits her goal of 30 lbs. She is only 3 lbs away, but those shoes are staring at her every day, waiting to be worn. I need this. I need that piece of candy dangling in front of my face, reminding me daily of why I am waking up and sweating.

So I bought a bracelet that I LOVE from Fifth and Mae.

It is absolutely gorgeous and I am I can't stop staring at it.  I have decided that I will not wear it until I hit 245. I have been jumping in and out of the 240's for WEEKS and I am ready to hit 245. I am going to do everything in my power to not have to wait too long. 

God I am obsessed with it! 

I also bought these earrings, but you better bet those bitches are going in my ears on the drive home from the mail box.
