Sharing is Caring

I love to read blogs. As a writer, I love to read what other women (and some men) are writing. Blogs are by far my favorite form of entertainment, over tv and magazines, and sometimes even books, because they are so personal. It's like a story I get to read one chapter at a time, every day. I have a blogs that I love tab up there, but I wanted to feature some that I read daily. I hope you will share your favorites in the comments!

I am not on a diet


In the last six months, I can not even tell you how many people have said “oh she can’t have __, she’s on a diet.” I just smile and nod, but I think it’s time to set the record straight. I am not on a diet.

I have been on many diets in my life, and none of them have been successful for me, long term. I have discovered that I don’t do well with depriving myself. The minute I tell myself I can’t have something, I want it, even if I didn’t want it before. I will tell myself “let’s try a low carb diet!” and I do pretty well for about two hours, then I start obsessing about the hot fresh French bread at the grocery store. Then I come up with some reason that we have to go to the grocery store that night to buy something (not bread). Then I smell the HFFB as soon as we get in the store, grab a loaf and eat half of it while walking around, and the other half on the drive home. This has happened. It’s not pretty.

So I realized that if I don’t put restrictions on myself, I don’t have that problem. I can have ice cream, and I do. I just have a serving of it, not a gallon. I don’t feel like I can’t have it, so I don’t obsess about it. It allows me to eat healthy but not feel deprived.

I may just be crazy and you might not have this problem, but I would 100% attribute this to my success.

So the next time someone says “she’s on a diet” about me (because they never say it to you…) I am going to say back “I’m not on a diet, I just stopped eating like shit.” This is not a temporary change. After a fixed point in time I am not going to “go back” to eating how I did because I don’t want to. When you eat bad, you feel bad, and I don’t want to feel that way anymore. I can eat ice cream and French bread in moderation because it’s about what I eat the other 90% of the time that counts.

So I compel you to stop dieting! Stop restricting yourself and make the decision to really change your lifestyle. I promise you will feel better :D

Weigh In Wednesday 3-28



I have a confession. Well really an obsession. I am obsessed with my scale. I weigh my self at least 10 times a day, and I am out of the house for work from 6:30am-5:30pm every day. That's a lot of times. I weigh myself at least before and after every time I pee, after I eat, after I drink, naked, clothed, shoes on, shoes off, upside-down even. Ok that last one is a joke, but the point is, I obsess. I obsess about that number, and if it is up or down from an earlier weigh in (even 3 minutes earlier) I analyze it to the point of death.

I am starting to think I have a problem.

I feel like this is getting a little out of control so I am making a choice to stop. I am going to put my scale away for an entire month, starting today. I shall call it "No Weigh April". I need a month off from my obsessive behaviors and here is why.

Losing weight is not about the number on the scale for me. It is about feeling better about myself and in general. It is about fitting into really cute clothes and being healthy enough to put a baby inside me. My weight has always been a weird thing for me. I weigh more other people of my same size. For example, when I was a senior in high school, I was 5'1, 200 lbs and a size 14 at American Eagle. I have a friend who is 5'1 and at 150 lbs was a size 16. I don't understand it, but my weight and size are different than other people. So fixating on a number doesn't really make sense to me long run.

Now don't get me wrong, the scale is an excellent tool to measure your weight loss success and I am not about to burn it, I just think I need to refocus my efforts and step away from the scale for a month.

For measurement purposes, I am taking my circumfrence measurements and weight today, and I wont again until the first Wednesday in May. I will also take pictures for fun, but I may or may not share them with you in the end :D

Oh and also, I host a link party every Monday that is all about setting goals and being accountable to achieving them. It is super positive and a great way to stay on track! Join us! :D

Weight: 253.3 (+2) (-32.3)

I basically don't understand this number at all. I worked out, got great calorie burn according to my Bodybugg and ate stellar and tracked EVERYTHING I ate. I did the math and based on my calorie deficit this last week, I should have lost 3.04, not gained.

Measurements: 
Chest: 48 Waist: 44.5  Hips: 54.5 Thigh: 26.5  Arm:  16

I will not take any of those measurements again until May. I definitely need this time off. 

It's kinda liberating! lol

There's an app for that: Running Edition

Some people love running. It is like therapy for them. It clears their minds and makes them feel like beasts and I hope to one day be one of those people. For me, running is still really hard. I have never once run a mile. I have always hated running. In 7th grade, the first age we had to run the mile in gym, I was the slowest kid by FAR. I ran as much as I could, which wasn't much, but I was way behind the others. I distinctly remember other kids after finishing running back to me to encourage me to keep going.

I honestly don't remember anyone ever teaching me how to run. Sure it seems obvious, and the legs part of it is, but I still don't understand how to breathe when I run. When I was younger I would hold my breath when I ran. That's not right lol. So I feel like a COMPLETE beginner when it comes to running, but I know that the accomplishment I feel after even running a short amount makes me want to keep going. I know I could be one of those happy running people. But until then, I need a little help.

Enter my iPhone.

I love apps. I am always looking for a new app to make my life easier or more fun. I was perusing instagram (my most recent app obsession) when I came across this app.


Zombies, Run! is an interactive game on your phone that you listen to through headphones. You go on missions to gather provisions during the zombie apocalypse and you have to literally run from the zombies. OMG isn't this genius!?! This is absolutely a game I could get behind! It is $3.99 so I am waiting to buy it from the app store, but I really can't wait to play. 


Ok this one is a little less boring, but it is very helpful. Nike+ Running is a great way to track your runs.  It will plot your run on a map and show you your speed throughout the course. It connects to Facebook so people can cheer you on as you go, and you can listen to music while it works. My favorite feature is that you can track treadmill runs too. Most running apps only work for outdoor runs, so it is really helpful that Nike+ does it all. This one is free :D


 If you are like me, you love to listen to music while working out. Running is certainly no exception. If you are also like me, an upbeat song makes you run faster and slower songs sometimes set you back. If so, pace DJ is for you. it helps you find songs that match your pace in beats per minute. That way you can run to the beat and keep the same pace, or increase it every other song, or really whatever you would like. It adds one more element of personalization to your run. This one is $2.99

There you go! 3 new apps to add to your smart phone. All of these work on IOS, Android and Windows phones. Let me know if you use any of these! I personally have only used the Nike+ one, but the other two sound awesome. I wasn't paid or perked to write this or anything, I just thought they sounded cool :D

Weekly Goals Check In 3-25

Happy Monday! Can you believe it's spring already?! Holy cow where did the first three months of this year go?? Hope you made them count!


I made a new banner for the link party! Like it?

I was sick all last week with a nasty sinus infection, but despite only working 20 hours last week, I think I did pretty great on my goals!

Here they are:

1. Lose 1lb. Ok I knocked this one out of the park. I had been gaining so I set a goal I really hoped I could attain! I was absolutely thrilled when I lost 4.7 lbs last Wednesday!

2. Work out at the new gym 5 days this week. Ok that didn't happen. Like I said above (and if you follow me on FB you heard) I was really really sick this week. I only worked 2 full days which is a real sign of how much it killed me. BUT I did get in 3 work outs, a PT session Thursday, and just a good hour on Saturday and Sunday. This week will be better.

3. Keep Tracking! Firstly- bodybuggomg! I am in love with this thing! Secondly- Tracking is going great! I am posting my nightly report on Instagram so I am being kept accountable to tracking everything to make sure my nightly deficit is correct! This is just the accountability I needed :D

So yay! 2/3 this week! Not bad! Now for this week!


I am so close I can taste it. In fact I am so close that I have seen a number under that TWICE this weekend! I just need to keep making great choices and get my ass to the gym to solidify it! When I can finally say I am in the 240's, I will be somewhere I haven't been since 2006. That is 7 years my friends, almost a third of my life ago.


I am not sick anymore and I am ready to get my ass into gear. I went 5 days without a work out this last week and I felt SO gross. I am ready to get those 5 days in and make the gym my bitch :D 


That's per day. I know I CAN, I just need to. That is one every time I eat. I think they will really help me feel full longer, plus they are delicious.

Weekly Menu March 24 - March 30

Weekly Menus are back!!! But they are a little different. We have started eating a little differently. We are eating our large meals of the day at lunch, then a salad for dinner. We like this better because we don't go to bed feeling full, and we eat better because we aren't as hungry at lunch. So far it is working out well! 

We also have taken a lot of the variables out of breakfast and our snacks. We know what we like, so we have it every day.

So after I was offered the chance to order a dress, I perused their website and I fell in love with lots of different things. Seriously, check it out. They have something for everyone. I fell in love with a forest green cowel neck dress. 


I love the color, and I have a pair of knee high brown boots I can't wear with many things, and I just knew they would look great with this dress. I chose to order custom with my own measurements, and I chose to shorten it to "above knee length". Being short, most knee length dresses are about 2 inches too long. I wanted something that hit right at my knee so I went shorter. 

The days leading up to getting my dress, I played around on Polyvore to come up with some outfit ideas. 







I love all of these looks! I love that I can dress the dress up and down and make it work appropriate and still fun for the weekends. I really couldn't wait to get my hands on it!

As soon as it came in the mail, I opened it up and fell in love. The color was exactly as shown on the website, which is awesome because I love it. I was excited and anxious to try it on, and when I did, it fit like a glove. It hugged in all the right places, and flowed in all the other right ones. PLUS it has pockets :)

I do think it's a little short, but that is completely my fault. I didn't trust the truly custom fit, and one of the measurements they take is your height. I still love it tho. Here are some pics :)




I love how it feels and how it fits. It is a very nice material and it flows nicely but still has some structure. Overall, I would say that I honestly would purchase from Eshakti in the future. I found the prices to be very reasonable, especially for a custom dress. They have a large selection of pieces, and I know that they will fit the way I want when I give them my measurements.

Weigh In Wednesday 3-20

Man this has been a crazy week! Lots of changes taking place, but I think change is good! I was promoted at work, so I have been training for my new position, the blog got a bit of a facelift, and my Commit to Fit program ended. So over all, lots of changes. 

Also I left you last week with a pretty substantial gain. I was bummed but it really got me back on the right track. I have been tracking more religiously and even though I have been sick, I have been trying to eat right and drink lots of water :)

I am happy with that! My goal from Monday was to lose 3 lbs and I am glad I exceeded that. I knew my gain the last two weeks were stress and plateau related, so I am really glad  I am right on track to get my butt out of the 250's this month!

Clean up your Cubicle

If you are like me, you have a full time job, siting for 8 hours a day behind a computer with very little opportunity to get up and move around. You pack your lunch in the mornings, ride a train into the city and eat whenever you have a free minute. You struggle to pack perishable snacks like fruits and veggies and usually find yourself munching on goldfish crackers or a granola bar. You make a point to get up and pee or fill up your water bottle at least once an hour just to get your legs moving.  Just me?

It can be hard when so much of your time is spent at a desk. There are some things I have done to make sure I am eating better at work.

1. I always pack food to take with me. I pack breakfast, lunch and two snacks every day. If I don't bring something, I always end up going to the 7-11 across the street, and there is nothing healthy to eat at 7-11, trust me.

2. Don't be afraid of fruits and veggies. Sure they aren't the most convenient to stick in a bag, and they might bruise on the way there, but really it's worth it. And you have to EAT them. I put my fruits and veggies on my desk so I see them before I even open my drawer. I know they are there and I can reach for them anytime.

3. Avoid packaged foods. I completely get that they are easier, believe me, but they aren't going to be as good for you. Go to a Sprouts or Whole Foods and buy a big bag of raw almonds from the self serve section. Portion it out for yourself. Or if you want to get super fancy, try a crack at making your own granola bars. It's not as hard as it seems, and they are so much more delicious! Here is a recipe that looks yummy from Freeze Your Way Fit.

4. Bring things that stay good. The hardest thing about working in a cubicle is that you might not always have access to a fridge (or trust the company fridge). Short of buying a mini-fridge for your desk (assuming your company would allow it), you will have to stick with things that can be stored in your drawer with no refrigeration necessary. These include nuts, whole fruits (apples, oranges, pears, at least for a week), a loaf of bread (for emergency toast), etc.

5. Avoid the office goodies! If your office is anything like mine, every friday is "goody" day. Avoid Avoid, Avoid! These "goodies" typically include bagels, muffins, doughnuts, candy, cake, ugh. Just don't do it. It will be hard. All of your co-workers will be enjoying these "goodies" and you will feel left out, but it is worth it. Go for a walk, grab a piece of fruit, take a break, just try not to give into the temptation. After the first few fridays, you will feel so awesome every time you don't eat four a bagel or muffin that they wont even phase you. Be strong!

Weekly Goals Check In 3-18

Happy Monday! Hope you all did something healthy this weekend!

It's time for my Weekly Goals Check In link party! In case you're new, every Monday I set 3 goals I want to achieve this week. The following Monday, I review how I did, and set new goals. Wanna join? Link up a post to your goals this week and come back next Monday to share how you did!


So last weeks goals were:

1. Lose 1 lb. I havn't officially weighed in this week, but as of this morning, I am down a couple. I think my gain was either hormonal, or some left over bad eating that needed to make its way out of my system.

2. Make the most out of my last week. I definitely think I did this! I pushed myself even harder than normal in my work outs, and I am really excited about all the things Commit to Fit taught me. I will be doing a wrap up post when the winners are announced, so keep an eye out for that in the next couple weeks :)

3. Track, Track, TRACK! Ok so I didnt do it as much as I should have, but 4 out of 7 days isnt bad. I now have a body bug which will keep me more accountable. If I don't track everything, my deficit isnt accurate. I want it to be accurate so :)

MUCH better than last week, which is good!

This week's goals:

1. Weigh 254 on Wednesday 3-20 for WIW this week. These goals will be set to be accomplished by the coming Wednesday :)

2. Work out at the new gym 5 days this week. We are planning on going Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with personal training on Thursday too. That means I need to get my butt over there once next weekend and I am good!

3. Keep tracking. I am hoping to share my bodybugg stats somehow, so I want to stay accountable to you and the bugg :)

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes

As I am sure you have noticed, things are changing around here. Alex is going back to blogging full time at Good Girl Gone Wife, and if you don't already follow her, go do it now. Seriously. That girl is awesome, as I am sure you have come to find out :) I have asked her to come back every once in a while and let us know how she is doing! Sometimes a partnership sounds like a great idea but it turns out not to be, and thats okay :)

So things will be slightly different around here :) I have changed the look a smidgen. I really loved how we looked before, but I think the new colors are more me :) I have updated my About Me page, and I am in the process of updating the other pages too. Lots of new stuff to come there.

I am also working on bringing back weekly menus! (yay!) We are working on really planning our meals and eating MUCH healthier so I want to share all of that with you :)

My Commit to Fit program is officially over and I can't wait to see how it went! I have my final weigh in this week :)

I have joined a new gym and will keep going there 4-5 days a week!

I got a BodyBugg to track my calories in and out and I can't wait to see how that awareness changes what I am doing!

So over all, LOTS of changes going on over here, all of which I am pretty freaking excited about :D

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye


Well friends, it is with sadness that I tell you that this is my last post (for awhile, anyway) on Operation Skinny Jeans.

When we started this blog, we had both had other blogs (and I still do). Jess missed blogging, but didn't want it to suck up her life the way her other blog had, so she asked me to blog with her, and I agreed. Over the course of OSJ, I have gotten a lot busier: I work two jobs, have two small businesses on the side, have two other blogs (though I always did) and attempt to occasionally have some form of a social life (though that doesn't always work out for me).

Unfortunately, this meant that I didn't always have a lot of time to post (as you may have noticed from the fact that I've mostly only been posting once a week for the past month or so). Jess was fine with that, but she has decided that she would like to continue blogging on her own now (and let's be real -- it's always been Jess's blog anyway).

This doesn't mean that I'm giving up on getting fit; if anything, it only spurs me on more. I've been so grateful for all the support I've received here, and I don't want to let you down (though in related news, I got an email this morning saying that I'm a verified DietBet winner, and I can't wait to see how much I made!).

From now on, you can find me at Good Girl Gone Wife. I haven't really posted anything fitness-related over there since I have been over here, but I'm going to make an effort to include fitness posts from now on, especially now that I'm a Sweat Pink Ambassador.

5 Things I Can't Live Without

Remember Fast 5 Fridays? Me either lol. I did it once and I decided to dust it off and do it again :)


Here are the 5 things I can't live without!

1. Old Navy Compression Pants  $35
Whether for Yoga or Bootcamp or just plain jogging, I love these pants. They hold me in, and support my jiggly bits :)

2. Nike Free 4.0 $90

I love my Nike LunarGlides, but I think I need something with a little less arch support. These are adorable :)

3. Spinach
I eat a ton of spinach. In smoothies, salads, on sandwiches, etc. I can't get enough of the green stuff!

4. Alpine Valley Organic Bread $4 
This bread saved my carb loving life. I knew a non negotiable for me would be bread. I love it too much to Just Say No. After I learned that my go to, SaraLee 45 calorie wheat was laced with High Fructose Corn Syrup (as well as other un-pronoucables) I was frustrated and angry! That was until I found this delightful bread :) 100% organic, nothing crazy in it, and it's only 60-80 calories per slice. I have this toasted EVERY morning :)

5. Starbucks Blonde Roast
Speaking of things I have EVERY morning. This is the best thing ever. I brew it in my Keurig, and omgiloveit. It has a nice mild robustness, which is great for mornings, and it really packs the caffeine punch. People ask me what my secret is to waking up at 4:45 am to work out and still function at work. This, my friends, is the answer.

The Secret To This Week's Success


Y'all know I'm gif crazy :)

Anyway, Jess promised earlier that I'd share my secrets of how I lost almost four pounds this week. But you know what? It's not much of a secret.

As trite as it sounds, it was all diet and exercise. But I'll break it down for you since that's a little vague :)

First of all, our Diet Bet ends this week. And I was a little behind where I needed to be. From the time I signed up, I was determined to win this sucker, so that really gave me the motivation I needed to rock it out this week. It worked too, because I'm now only tenths of a pound away from winning!

As far as the diet part goes, I ate a LOT of salad. Like, mostly salad. I ate it with dressing and cheese (because salad is so much better with dressing and cheese!), and I'm totally okay with that, because salad is so low cal that you really need something to bump up the calories, and ranch dressing is such a tasty way to do that :)

With the exception of Friday night, I didn't eat out at all. Last month, we ate out a lot more than usual, so that certainly wasn't helping my weight loss efforts. When I did eat out Friday, I didn't eat a whole lot, and I made sure to eat lots of veggies and protein.

I only drank water, other than milk in my cereal, until last night, when I had a glass of juice. I also started my mornings by drinking room temperature water with lemon juice. Whether or not it actually helps is still being debated, but supposedly the citric acid reduces blood sugar absorption and increases calcium absorption, which supposedly helps burn fat.

On the exercise side, it's been really cold and snowy every day but Sunday, so the C25K thing has gone a little by the wayside, so instead, I've been trying to incorporate home cardio workouts. I actually tried a Zumba video for the first time, and I really liked it! It was a lot harder than I expected it to be, and I kind of felt like an idiot, but I enjoyed it, and plan on doing it again.

Plus, you know, I'm almost 300 pounds. When someone my size loses weight, it's likely to fall off faster and in bigger clumps than someone half my size. It's like watching the Biggest Loser...everyone tends to lose more weight at the beginning than the end, because they're heavier then. I don't know if I'll lose four pounds next week or not, but I know it would be a lot more difficult at 150 than it is now.

And I have a NSV too. When I started this journey, I was wearing size 20 jeans, though they were a tad tight. 22s, on the other hand, were too loose. About a month ago, I got another pair of jeans (Old Navy, size 20, like my other jeans). They fit in the same way. Now, those pants are falling off of me. I find myself having to constantly stop and pull them up. It makes me wonder if I could fit into an 18! (I'm probably going to wait a little longer to try though).

All in all, I'm proud of myself and the work I put in this week. I've proven to myself that I can do this!
