Operation Skinny Jeans: I took the plunge

I took the plunge

I take a long time to make a big decision. I like to weigh the pros and cons, as well as think about every side of an argument. So much so that I can often talk myself out of something. Multiple times.

I have been in a bit of a workout rut. I have been running for my half marathon training, but I find myself bored in the gym. I lift weights, but I have no focus. I try to put together workouts, but I am bored.  My biggest challenge right now is finding the excitement and motivation in working out again. So I decided to try something new. That is how I have kept going for so long. When something isn't working, I try something new.

Yep. After MONTHS of resisting and hemming and hawing over trying out Beachbody products, this one sold me. Here's why. It is a no brainer. My biggest challenge going into the gym is planning. I think I know what I am going to do, but I stand there half the time trying to decide what to do next. It wastes time and I am obviously not getting the results I want. It is far easier to follow a schedule and all the thinking I have to do is looking at the calendar and working the dvd player. EASY.

It is FAST. 30 minutes. That's it. I don't have to worry about the time it takes to get to the gym, get to the weight part, work out, pack up, head home and get ready. If I tried to do all that in 30 min, my actual workout would only be like 15 minutes, MAX! This way I can roll out of bed, get my sweat on and hop in the shower for work all in the time it would take me to get to the gym and get to a machine. And the workouts are high intensity so I am making the most of those 30 minutes.

It is made for beginners! It is no secret that P90X and P90X2 are HARD CORE. They totally scare the shit out of me. But this program gives you the benefits of those ones, in way less time, and with beginner modifications. So I can do more than 3 reps of all (or most) of the moves, DAY 1. And as I get stronger and better, I can change the move so it gets harder and I am still getting a good workout.

I am not even joking when I am telling you that it has taken the perfect storm of programs to get me to even CONSIDER using these products. I am cheap. I wouldn't even pay the $15 to run a Turkey Trot for fucks sakes. But if something is going to work and motivate me to FINALLY get a workout in that feels like I am doing something, I am willing to spend the money.

I am not trying to sell you. I promise. I just wanted to share why I am doing this and how excited I am. I am going to start it on January 1, 2014. It will be after Ash and my Diet Bet is over and I will be looking for my next kick in the ass. I am also doing a challenge group for anyone who wants to do it with me. If that sounds cool, check out my Facebook event for more info, or email me or comment or tweet me or whatever and we will get in touch.

Have you ever tried Beachbody workouts? My bestie is obsessed with them and has done all of them from Hip Hop Abs to Insanity.

  1. I did Insanity for a while...and I REALLY need to get back into it! I've heard great things about the T25 and hadn't heard of this P90X30 yet but it sounds awesome!

  2. My boyfriend and I completed T25 this summer. It was, hands down, the best workout series I have ever done. I love Shaun T and you really can't beat a 25 minute workout. Beachbody is awesome.

  3. I got T25 and am starting it on Monday. I did the cardio workout yesterday and the abs today just to see what I was getting myself into, and will start actually following the calendar on Monday. So far I love Shaun T and the way the work outs are structured. I certainly could feel it both days afterwards. I am all about getting in the most work out in the littlest amount of time. It is hard to talk yourself out of working out when it is just 25-30 minutes a day! An hour is much more daunting!!

  4. Ooh! I am excited to try this. I've attempted P90X in the past and barely gotten past the first few days. It's frustrating to not have the physical strength to hardly attempt most of the upper body stuff, so I'll be sure to check this out!

  5. My husband and I are starting P90x on Saturday, we already had the program from when I did it in college, so we are going to work through that. I'd love to go straight into p90x2 and 3 after that though. I have TurboFire and love that as well.

  6. I want to do this so bad, but I feel like I wouldn't have the upper body strength to do any of it. Like, I can barely do ONE push-up. I've lost 35 pounds in the past 18 months, but still have like no strength at all. Do you think it would still be beneficial to do it, even if I can't do all of the moves?

  7. I want to do this so badly, but I have no upper body strength at all. Like, I can barely do ONE push-up. Would it even be worth it for me to try it, if I can't do most of it when I start? I've lost 35 pounds in 18 months and I'm at a stupid plateau right now and i just want to keep losing!

  8. I've done Slim in 6 several times and loved it! I never did get past the first DVD... but like everything else... if you stick to it it will help! Good luck crazy women! :)

  9. I LOVE Beachbody products. I've done TurboFire (one of my favs), Brazil Butt Lift, ChaLEAN Extreme, Insanity, Les Mills Combat (another fav), Insanity, The Ultimate Reset (don't recommend) and have T25. I lost 40+ lbs doing their workouts at home. However I lost so much motivation and kind of fell in to the most epic funk in which I am still in and have gained all the weight back. This morning I put on a "fat" dress to wear to work and couldn't get it over my thighs. Slap in the face with that one! I need to get it together...

I would love to hear from you! Have something to say? Say it here!
