Julia's Journey and Clean Eating

Hello OSJ Readers! My name is Julia and I blog over at Julia's Journey. I am so excited to write a guest post for Jess's blog. She is one motivational lady!

I am brand new to the blog world. I just began blogging back in May and so far it has been fantastic. My weight loss journey has been what really inspired me to start blogging. I have lost a total of 29 pounds so far and I have clean eating to thank for it. I want to share a little bit about my journey with all of you.

I have been obese my entire life. I'm not one of those people that was skinny in high school and gained a bunch of weight as I got older. I have never known what it is like to be thin. Ever since I was a child I was extremely overweight. I used to eat nothing but processed food and the portions I ate for each meal were enough to feed 2-3 people. Polishing off an entire large pizza was not a difficult task for me.

They say everyone has a "wake up call" when they realize something needs to change. Mine was when one of my friends posted a picture of me on facebook. I don't have the picture anymore (I'm pretty sure I called her crying and begged to have it deleted), but I will never forget that picture. It is forever burned in my mind. It was a picture of me sitting down with rolls in my legs, arms, and stomach. I was sitting with my arms positioned in a way that you could tell I was attempting to cover myself and the look on my face showed my discomfort. Looking at that picture told me one thing: Enough is Enough. 

I decided to begin dieting. I tried cutting out carbs, calories, sugar, and countless amounts of fad diets. I would lose a few pounds and then gain it all back (and then some). I ended up topping out at 240 pounds (I'm 5'5).

A few months ago I read something about clean eating and decided to give it a try. I didn't count calories or obsess about every little thing I put in my mouth. Instead I focused on eating reasonable portions of whole, natural, unprocessed food. I started off by eating out less. I began to cook my own food so that I could really control what I was putting in my mouth. The more I ate clean, the better I felt. Not to mention the weight fell off. I maybe ate clean 70% of the time at the beginning, but now it's closer to 90%. 

I don't miss processed junk what so ever. I eat mostly vegetables, fruit, whole grains, lean meats, and a bunch of clean treats I make myself. If you're willing to put some work in you can eat your favorite foods, but enjoy them the clean way. I actually eat clean chocolate everyday! I make a big batch once a week and my fiance and I enjoy it all week. I eat homemade pizza, mac and cheese, burgers, and even hot dogs (yes clean hot dogs exist)! The key is to make things yourself and to eat sensibly. Sure I have cheats now and then ( I still can't say no to chips and queso at a Mexican restaurant), but they are very occasional and in moderation. 

I also began to exercise about a month and a half ago, but honestly the clean eating really is what has made me drop the weight. You can't out train a bad diet. 

I invite all of you to come check out my blog. I try to post a few clean recipes per week as well as workout tips and different things along my weight loss journey. My ultimate goal is to to lose 75 more pounds and be the fit and healthy person that I know I can be. I don't want to go my whole life without wearing a bikini or feeling confident in a cute little black dress. Most of all I don't want to go on feeling overweight and feeling ashamed of my body.  Thank you for reading my story.
