Operation Skinny Jeans: Love your legs!

Love your legs!

After my post on Tuesday about my June goals, I was really surprised and sad to see how many women don't wear shorts because they don't like their legs. LADIES! Rocking shorts is all about self confidence and not at all about toned legs.

Here is a fact. It is HOT in the summer time! Why are you suffering in jeans!? Because you don't want to "offend" anyone with your legs? Fuck them! Sorry for my language but seriously. There is NOTHING wrong with your thighs! And your big calves are strong and they are YOURS! Own them.

I hate that us bigger women have to feel ashamed of our bodies! Everyone's body is different, and everybody has "trouble areas". The best thing you can do for your health is to fall in love with yourself. Every inch of you. NAKED. It's your body and the only one you have! Love it, show it respect, and it will do amazing things for you. You call those thighs "cottage cheese"??? They took you through that 5K! You hate your calves? They got you through 200 squats last week. They may not be perfect, but they are yours.

My point is, WEAR THE DAMN SHORTS. Why are you making yourself uncomfortable?

A few tips to make you feel awesome in the shorts. Shave your legs :P and lotion/ tan them. You will feel more confident and NOBODY will be staring at your thighs.

Some pictorial motivation:

These are my 285 lb thighs, and I rocked the SHIT out of those shorts.

My thighs a few months ago. I love them, in all their awesome glory.

  3. Thanks for sharing! I hope it gives more people the confidence to wear shorts, because you're right, it's just too hot sometimes to suffer in jeans! I wore alot of maxi skirts (target and gap have some good ones now), but even at my heaviest I still wore shorts. That was two summers ago, and I was so depressed that none of my shorts from the previous summer fit, but I was able to find some good ones at Old Navy that were a decent length and good style.

  5. Great post, Jess! To quote Baz Luhrmann, "Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can... Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own." Embrace your beautiful bodies, ladies!!!

  6. I needed this! I own one pair of shorts and don,t even have workout shorts. Makes running in this weather suck a little more! I will follow this advice, because you are so right.

  11. I'm one who hides in pants all summer. It's not that I'm concerned about others, I just can't get out of my own head to be comfortable. I wish I could just buy some confidence...you know other than alcohol haha! I love that you rock those shorts and love yourself! I want to be there so badly. One day hopefully :)

  13. My problem with shorts wasn't an embarrassment issue or that people will be looking at my legs. I didn't like wearing shorts because they rode up between my thighs and I was constantly pulling them down. Then, I would get a rash between my legs where they rubbed together.

Still have another 20 pounds before I get that infamous thigh gap and won't have to worry so much about this, but I am glad that I've lost as much weight as I have to be able to be comfortable this summer.

  14. I don't think tan big legs look better; they look stupider. No dermatologist worthy of a diploma would tell you to tan. It ages you and can cause cancer.

  15. Best post I have read all day!! I'm fine with wearing my shorts, but always felt like I should wear a tee shirt with them instead of a sleeveless shirt while walking/running. Well, it's hotter than 10 hell's here in Alabama and I'm trying to increase my speed for a 5k(first one) that I signed up for next month. I started going sleeveless last week and may never go back!!! You are very correct about learning to love your body--I have ALWAYS had self esteem issues, exspecially in intimate situations. Always had to have the sheets over me or lights out. I'm working on this one. I just keep telling myself, this is me---like it or not, I'm a work in progress!!

Thanks again for the great post!!!
