Track it Like it's Hot

I need to get back to tracking. I am proud to say I tracked everything yesterday, the good, the bad and the ugly. I just know for me that tracking is key. I need that accountability. Over the last few weeks of not tracking on MFP (myfitnesspal) , I have tried a few different methods to write down what I am eating, without any solid avail. I am curious how you guys stay on track.

My go to is the myfitnesspal ap on my phone. I love the calorie bank and that you can find almost anything you could think of. And there is even a barcode scanner that I love. The only problem is that I am not allowed to be on my phone at work, so I have a hard time remembering to track everything on my breaks.

Which brings me to my first idea. Sticky note. I was writing everything I ate on a sticky note with the intention of putting it in my phone on the train ride home. Well needless to say I ended up with lots of sticky notes in the bottom of my purse, and nothing in my tracker.

Then I tried emailing myself. During the day I would type everything into an email (on my computer) and send it at the end of the day to myself. Lots of emails never made it into my tracker :/

Even when I was tracking religiously on my phone, I often forgot dinner. Evenings are lazy time and I don't remember to track it before bedtime.

So now that you know what isn't really working for me, please share what works for you! I want to be a tracking goddess!!

  1. I use the app called lose it. i had MFP but i like lose it better, there are challenges and support groups. My work does not allow phones either, so in the morning as i pack my food for the day i track it, and if i dont eat something then i delete it at the end of the day. Or if i eat more then i add it online on my computer at work. They have a web page where i can access my account! i really love it, maybe try using that app. It was rated #1 over MFP.

  2. I'm assuming you're not allowed to visit the MFP site at work? My only other suggestion is to write it down in a note pad and before you eat dinner, track it all in your phone.. but that's easier said than done.. I'm lucky that I can access it at work and even if they blocked it, my work is pretty into Health and Wellness and if I asked, I'm sure they would allow it again.

    1. Yeah mine is pretty strict. They would assume I would waste time on it so I doubt they would unblock it.

  3. I'm doing Weight Watchers. I switch back and forth from using the app and using paper... If I feel like I'm getting to comfortable doing one (slacking) I switch it up.

  4. I usually track with MFP, either the website or the app.. If I don't have my phone I'll just write it down and track as soon as I get home.

  5. I usually track on my phone on MFP because it prompts me for things that I enter often. But sometimes I have to use the website. Can you have that open while you're at work? If I had to track the entire day at once, I'm not sure how successful I would be at tracking either. :/

    1. I definitely find it easier to track as you go.

  6. I like to put it in at the start of the day.. that way if I come across a snack or a treat I might want.. I know whether I can have it or not. Sometimes I will put in my workouts but only if I know I will for sure be doing it. This would help as you could do it before work?

  7. If it is important to you, taking a few minutes to finish in the evening should not be an excuse.

    1. This is a fair point. I am lazy and sometimes forgetful. I want to take a multivitamin every day, but I don't always remember. Same thing with tracking. I am working on it tho ;)
