Eat your Fruits and Veggies!

So part of the Weight Watchers 360 plan is to introduce new routines every month to create better habits. Last month was always having a snack on hand. I have gotten better about this one,  and now I keep a Larabar or 2 pt bar in my bag at all timed. It definitely helps when I need that extra boost.

For the month of January, the routine is to eat more fruits and veggies. I think specifically it is to eat a fruit or veggie with every meal or snack. Thats a lot! This is definitely something I have been working on because I would go all day without putting a fruit or veggie in my mouth. Not good! Having a spelled out meal plan definitely helps me plan ahead!

It definitely sounds intimidating to pack that much produce in your day, but I have some quick and easy ways to get them in without much thought!

Breakfast:

Typically for breakfast I have oatmeal or hard boiled eggs or toast. A banana, apple or orange would be a welcome side to this meal. Another great idea would be to have a smoothie! I love smoothies for breakfast and they are packed with protein!

Lunch:

For lunch, I usually have leftovers, or a sandwich or a frozen meal. Canned or frozen veggies are easy to add to the side of any of these. And I always add lots of lettuce to my sandwiches :) My tip with a frozen meal is to microwave broccoli along with it, and dump the frozen meal on top of the broccoli. It will keep you fuller longer, and it seasons the veggies with the sauce of the dish!

Dinner:

The easiest way to do this is to add a side salad with your meal. Growing up we would have a salad, then dinner. I like this idea because you fill up part of your stomach with veggies, then eat the rest. You will find you fill up faster having eaten your veggies first. Veggies on the side are always welcome for me too.

Snacks:

I like two snacks a day, typically a sweet and salty one. For my sweet snack, I usually reach for an apple with peanut butter, or grapes (I love them frozen!). For a salty snack, I love cucumbers or broccoli or cauliflower dipped in ranch or with string cheese. Both of these satisfy me :)

Dessert:

Berries berries berries! One of my favorite sweet treats is a hand full of strawberries with "Free" Cool-Whip! So light and sweet, and definitely satisfying!

See, its not that hard. Also for my produce, we always go to Sprouts (or Whole Foods if you don't have Sprouts.) We find the produce is better and also cheaper than our normal grocery store!

What are your favorite fruits and veggies! Any fun ways you get them in without feeling overwhelmed?

  1. Thanks for the great tips Jess. I love the ideas of eating a salad before your meal instead of with your meal. Wondering why I've never thought of that. Lol... Something we like to do instead of always using lettuce on our sammies is use spinach leaves or Sprouts sells big plastic containers (like what the spinach comes in) of assorted kale leaves. Adds a great iber/nutritional punch. I'd also like to share one of our favorite smoothies with you guys. It's 1 cup freshly squeezed OJ or you can also use bottled, 2 medium sized carrots scrubbed good and broken in half (we leave the skin on for extra fiber and nutrients), 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen pineapple, 1/2 frozen banana, and ice. Blend until smooth. Another great smoothie s 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter, 1 cup milk or we've also used vanilla soy milk (just omit vanilla then), 1-2 teaspoons of vanilla, 1 frozen banana, and ice. We've also added a tablespoon of flax meal to bump of nutrients.

    1. mmm! Those sound yummy! I hate carrots lol but the other one sounds great :) I love to pile on the greens on a sandwich too. It makes it more filling I think :)

  2. I love spinach- salads, on sandwiches or sauteed.
Also love asparagus bundles- wrap several stalks in turkey bacon and roast in the oven!
